Our Purpose

Supporting people to acknowledge death and celebrate life

We are committed to providing an excellent service – 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. We will get together with you, ensure that the funeral arrangements meet your particular needs and take care of all the details on your behalf.

Our Values

Compassion for families and friends of the deceased

We are sensitive to the emotional demands on people at this time. We will give you the time and space you need to make decisions and guide you with a gentle and caring approach. We are happy to work with individuals or large groups and children are very welcome to be involved. Dour Funeral Directors are a thing of the past!

Fairness in all our business dealings

We are committed to giving you value for money – ensuring that you get good service and a fair deal. We do not take advantage of people suffering the extremes of grief. And we are careful to ensure the quality of service from businesses working with us.

Honesty in all professional and personal relationships

We are open and honest in our communication and will act with integrity at all times. We take our position of trust seriously. Personal information will be treated with discretion and confidentiality.

Respect for diversity in culture, ethnicity, religion and family groups

We are experienced at working with a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds and personal situations. Each person is treated equally and can expect the same high standard of service. We do our utmost to listen to your needs and provide exactly the service you would wish for.

We are part of a group of funeral homes, who have since 1992, run a bus service to the Makara Cemetery on the 3rd Wednesday of every month

Responsibility for our community and the environment that sustains us

We know that we are a part of the fabric of our community and exist within the natural resources of this planet. We use local businesses and New Zealand made products as much as possible. We are committed to wise use of the earth’s resources and seek to minimise our waste. And we contribute a native plant to a public or community garden for every funeral we conduct.

Our achievements are shaped by the terrain of our lives and the strength of the foundations we set. In building the organisation we've imagined, we must be true to our beliefs, dare to be ethical and strive to be honourable. For integrity is the highest ground to which we can aspire.

- J. F. Kennedy
